How to add page numbers without changing page size

Place readable numbers inside existing PDF page boxes without reflowing content.

Overlay instead of reformatting

A PDF page has fixed dimensions. This tool draws number text onto that existing canvas; it does not add a footer region or shrink the original content.

Choose range and sequence separately

To leave a cover unnumbered, select source pages 2-12 and set the starting number to 1. Source page 2 then displays 1. The source page index and printed number do not have to match.

Keep numbers away from content

Use a larger margin when the source has crop marks or dense footers. On mixed-size pages, inspect both the smallest and largest dimensions because one point value is applied to every selected page.

  • 8–11 pt is usually adequate for compact pages.
  • Bottom centre is easy to scan but often conflicts with existing folios.
  • Top outer corners work well for bound documents.

Limitations

The initial tool uses Arabic numerals and a built-in Helvetica font. It does not remove existing numbers, create Roman numeral sections or modify a table of contents.
