PDF merge checklist: order, forms and signatures

Avoid common surprises when combining contracts, scans and generated PDFs.

Confirm the page order

Rename or select files in a predictable sequence and review the first and last page of each source. A converter cannot know the intended order from content alone.

Expect signatures to break

A digital signature protects a specific byte sequence. Merging, splitting or reorganising pages changes the document, so existing cryptographic signatures normally become invalid.

Check forms and navigation

Interactive form field names can collide when several PDFs are combined. Bookmarks, internal links and tagged accessibility structures may also require repair in a dedicated PDF editor.

Keep the originals

Download the merged file, open it independently and verify page count and legibility before deleting any source documents.
